The Letter C is a interesting grapheme that has two different sounds. There is the Hard C sound which sounds like /k/ as in the letter K, and there is a Soft C sound which mimics the /s/ sound made by the letter S. A general rule is that the letter C represents /s/ when used before the letters e, i or y. Other than that, it will sound like /k/. Of course there are exceptions, but this rule will work most times.
